Yes Indeed: Yes Live

A sparse crowd welcomed Yes to the Pepsi Arena in Albany, NY, Monday night November 4th. Touting the return of Rick Wakeman, the band brought out the classics along with a few new songs. In all fairness, this will be the third time in as many years that the band has been through town. The Masterworks tour (with Kansas), and the symphonic tour were both well attended.

As the strains of Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite" suddenly gave way to "Siberian Khatru," the band had the crowd of faithfuls in their hands. Yes standards "Heart Of The Sunrise" and "Close To The Edge" were the meat and potatoes of the set, leaving everyone satisfied. Solo spots from Steve Howe and Wakeman were technical displays, yet thoroughly enjoyable. Chris Squire's shining moment was shared with drummer Alan White, as he ran through snippets of "The Fish" and "Tempus Fugit."

Yes has put on some great shows over the years, and the band was playing well on this night. The size of the crowd did little to deter them, as they seemed to display the same energy as they have in the past. The little surprises like "Awaken" and the rocking "South Side Of The Sky" make it worth seeing them again and again. As Anderson thanked the crowd, it seemed that we should be thanking them for all the great music over the years.
