Posted on Saturday, April 04 @ 20:00:00 UTC by nightowl

Green Carnation ? this Norwegian band was formed in 1990 and has created songs from both progressive rock and progressive metal genres. The band?s music was continuously losing its heaviness with each release - from straight forward death metal, doom metal/progressive metal, to a more hard rock-sounding form of progressive rock and in 2006, went as far as to releasing an entirely acoustic album Acoustic Verses.

Metal Mind Productions presents a re-release of Green Carnation?s first ever DVD Alive And Well? In Krak?w, featuring the band?s show in Krak?w in January 2004. The tracklist includes a great variety of songs, including the first part of "Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness" and the highlights of the A Blessing In Disguise album! Bio: Green Carnation ? this Norwegian band was formed in 1990 and has created songs from both progressive rock and progressive metal genres. The band?s music was continuously losing its heaviness with each release - from straight forward death metal, doom metal/progressive metal, to a more hard rock-sounding form of progressive rock and in 2006, went as far as to releasing an entirely acoustic album Acoustic Verses. Green Carnation's debut album, Journey To The End Of The Night from 1999, featured folk-inspired doom metal. Two years later, the band released Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness, which consisted of one single track, a 60-minute progressive metal epic. The album is still highly respected and to this day features one of the longest songs in the entire metal genre. Their third album, A Blessing In Disguise, released in 2003, brought the band into another musical territory. It captured a blend of progressive metal/rock elements, slightly gothic tinges and some hard rock fits as well.

Two years later the band returned with the album The Quiet Offspring, which was released by The End Records. It was an album which took them towards an even more hard rock style of music and is seen by many to be their most commercial release yet. Later in 2005, the band released an EP entitled The Burden Is Mine... Alone. This EP marked the debut of bassist/guitarist Stein Roger Sordal as the new lead vocalist. This release was also a tease of what was to come with their next full-length album. Early 2006 marked the release of the band?s fifth full-length album, called The Acoustic Verses. This album brought yet another stylistic change for the group. On this record they played only acoustic instruments, showing a softer, warmer style, while in the same time retaining the progressive and darker moods they established since their debut.

In February 2007 Green Carnation recorded their second live DVD, A Night Under The Dam, where they played the entire Acoustic Verses album, as well as a few other songs. The DVD was recorded under a 30-meter-tall dam in the Norwegian mountains and was the last release done by the band?s current line-up.

In mid-August 2007, Terje Vik Schei announced that due to the poorly organized American tour and subsequent financial and motivational losses, the band had to split up. Tchort stated that he would "continue writing music under the name Green Carnation, but probably will never play live again with the band." The expected new album, The Rise And Fall Of Mankind, has been postponed with no current release date.
