Artist News: Rare Pics Of England In 1976 Surface!

Posted on Saturday, April 02 @ 20:00:00 UTC by nightowl

Now, not rare pic of England, the country, but of England, the band. As keyboardist Robert Webb posts to the band's newsletter, "We've posted five new photos up on our ReverbNation site.

"Julie Hooker, who worked at Arista in the 70s and went on to become Paul Simon's P.A., has forwarded us photos that she took of the band in 1976. We've chosen some from our recording session with The Rolling Stones Mobile Studio.

The band originally set up their equipment on the stage of the Hazlett Theatre in Maidstone (Kent), with the idea of using a mobile studio to record the music for Garden Shed. The shot with the mixing console shows Mick McKenna (studio manager) and the tape op (whose name we can't remember, any info welcome!) and the four members of the band. There's a nice shot of Jode 'in action' during the session. Also, Frank with a (hired?) Les Paul.

The recordings were abandoned... and lost (as far as we know). We went on to re-record the entire backing tracks again with David Hitch***** producing at Morgan 4 and Air Studios. (David was the producer on Genesis' Foxtrot and Nursery Crime albums).

[Except - oops - the photos don't seem to be there; but one was included in the newsletter which I've included here, smaller -ed.]
