CD/DVD Releases: Stormwatch - Countdown To Evergrey's New Release

While this is less news - or mere press release sharing - and more general sharing (or thinking aloud) -- following on from our posting last month of a press release regarding the new album from Evergrey, The Storm Within, we'll share that the band have released thus far three videos to promote the album, which comes out from AFM Records on September 9 - just 5 short days from today!

The most recent video release is a lyric video for the track "Passing Through." Heavier than the tracks/videos that preceded it, this video does reflect the stark atmospheres of the previous two - landscape footage shot at the same time. There is an energy here that contrasts nicely to the more melancholy feel of "Distance" and "The Paradox Of The Flame" (all of which continues to make me excited to hear the whole album). As usual, vocals soar and guitar solos thrill...

You can watch "Passing Through" here:

The first video that was released was "Distance," a mix of stark landscapes, Tom Englund (vocals/guitar) walking and singing in those landscapes, and bits of performance by the rest of the band. About the video, released at the end of July, the band comment, "'Distance' is the first of a series of videos we have shot for The Storm Within album. Working very closely with Patric Ullaeus and rEvolver Film Company our aim was to recreate the eerie and desolate sense we had while writing the songs for this -- the 10th Evergrey album. One could say this is our first real attempt at inviting everyone into the cinematic world where we have been in mind and thought throughout this year while writing. We think the imagery speaks for itself. This is just the beginning. The storm is coming." The track itself is a churning rocker, with keyboard washes, over which Englund croons emotively, longingly. This gets track gets a thumbs up from me.

The second in the series was the balladic "The Paradox Of The Flame," which features guest vocals from Carina Englund, Tom's wife. This was also filmed in the same locale - Iceland. Like "Distance," and I'd venture to say every track in the whole Evergrey oeuvre*, there is a depth of feeling to this on the part of both Englunds (something one does not get, in my opinion, from vocals that are more howling hell-winds than vocals. But I shant digress on that point. This, too, gets a thumb up from me. Watch below for yourself:

Evergrey will host a special album release listening party on Thursday, September 8th at Center Stage, the venue for ProgPower USA XVII. It is said that you don't need to have a ticket for PPUSA to attend the listening party (and as the festival is sold out - again! - getting a ticket might be hard to come by anyway).

*in my collection but ... ahem... yet unheard are the band's last couple of releases.
