Festival News: ProgPower USA X Line Up Announced

Posted on Saturday, October 04 @ 21:00:00 UTC by nightowl

With ProgPower USA IX just last weekend (Sep 26-27), already the announcement of 2009's line up has been made! This originally via a special video shown to attendees Friday night, after Amorphis' set (you can see this video at the ProgPower USA site). Although the specfic dates for 2009 have yet to be announced, and I (PW editor) will say the venue is to be confirmed (though I assume at Center Stage), here are the scheduled artists:

Friday - Power Quest, Tomorrow's Eve, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Sabaton, Royal Hunt, Andr? Matos; Saturday - Circus Maximus, Orphaned Land, Pagan's Mind, Brainstorm, and Fates Warning.

ProgPower X marks this festival's 10th Anniversary - in case the X didn't give it away. ;-) It's really been a short road from the festival's (not entirely) humble beginnings in February 2001 at JJ Kelley's in Lansing, Illinois. The venue may have been comparatively small to it's home for the last nine years - Center Stage (once known as Earthlink Live) in Atlanta, GA, but the lineup wasn't - Pain Of Salvation, Symphony X, Jag Panzer, just to name three. Within a relatively short time, ProgPower USA became on the premier, if not the premier, progressive and power metal festivals in the US, regularly selling out.

"The festival has a wide reputation for high quality and a laid-back atmosphere," reads the press release. "Band members frequently socialize with fans, and numerous artists have been known to attend even when not playing, including D.C. Cooper, Matt Smith of Theocracy, Jon Oliva of Savatage fame, Lance King, members of Evergrey, Dustin Mitchell and Curtis Morrell of Katagory V, Nick Van Dyke of Redemption, and Urban Breed (Bloodhound, ex-Tad Morose).

"ProgPower USA continues to reach new fans and artists, because it is a great opportunity for both bands and fans. Many European bands have made their first (or only) North American appearances at the festival. Many fans who cannot (or do not) travel to see those bands in Europe have a unique opportunity to see them closer to home at ProgPower."
