Festival News: Zenit Cancel Their Appearance At Montreux Prog Nights

Posted on Sunday, September 03 @ 19:26:02 UTC by nightowl

Official Zenit statement: Unfortunately we have to cancel our show at Montreux Prog Nights (http://mpn.bleublog.ch) on October 7, because of severe injury of our bass player Andy Thommen. We wish Andy a fast recovery and would like to let all the fans know that we will be back with Andy as soon as possible. Sign our guestbook at www.fragile.net.

Andy Thommen writes: "To whom it may concern: In 1988 I had a large retina detachment on my right eye. A 12 hour surgery (scleral buckle) saved my sight except for a scar right through the middle. I lost about 30% of the visus but everything ended well, I wrote a song about it during my Clepsydra times ("No Place For Flowers"), and I forgot about it.

"In November last year, during the production of "Surrender" I had an accident at home that caused me 2 retinal breaks in my left eye this time, with consequent slight bleeding. I had 2 surgeries to fix the retina (scleral buckle again...) and after 3 months the blood was almost completly gone. Again I forgot about all that and was back to work.

Last Saturday (August 26) I had what the doctors call a 'massive emoragia' in my left eye. I'll have to count again on several months for full recovery. Because of all the blood it is still unclear whether it is a retinal break or detachment, therefore the priority is to keep quiet until the blood has withdrawn a bit and only then I will know if and which surgery will be required. No worries, I feel no pain. I can do some slowed down studio work, but I'll be back as soon as possible, on stage, maybe with the third Zenit album!

Thanks to my family, friends and all the fans for your support and see you :-) at Montreux Prog Nights 2007!
