Vocalist Paul Mackie To Undergo Urgent Sinus Surgery

Not new news (and it would be insensitive to say nose news), as this story developed in late September, but we just became aware of it... and quite by accident. Anyway, as posted on the Facebook page of Geoff Banks (the band's general manager, booking agent, and press contact):

"Following the discovery of growths in his sinuses, Pallas vocalist Paul Mackie will be undergoing surgery in the next few weeks to remove the growths. As the operation will require the breaking of his nose as well as removal and investigation of the growths, the band have had to pull out of 2 European shows that were scheduled for October. The first is their headline performance at the Prog Resiste Festival at The Spirit of 66 in Verviers on Sat October 14th and their headline show in Den Bosch on Sunday October 15th.

"The band are disappointed to have to cancel the shows but hope that fans understand that there was no alternative under the circumstances. The band are also keen to point out that the medical treatment will not affect their December shows at Hard Rock Hell and their hometown Aberdeen Xmas show on December 10th.

"Bassist Graeme Murray is 'Gutted that we will be unable to play these shows in October, especially coming on the back of our fabulous reception at The High Voltage Festival, but we do not intend to let the grass grow under our feet and will be using the time to continue work on the new album that we hope to release by summer of next year'.

"Pallas will be undertaking a 2/3 week UK and European tour in Feb/March next year and the 2 cancelled shows will be included in the tour. The band also plan to have a track available for fans to download over the Xmas period as well as working on some radical remixes of XXV.

'Just to remind fans that the FREE downloads of the radio edit of 'Monster' and 'Atlantean' are still available from www.pallasxxv.com and the recently completed promo video for Monster is available at YouTube"

[Here's the odd set of coincidences... I am working on archival content, including right now Bobo's report on ProgResiste 2003, for which After Crying were approached, but didn't not participate. In the course of checking all the "old" links, I learned AC had a new website... which I updated in our reviews. And in confirming some things about ProgResiste in the current tense - one, After Crying are playing at ProgResiste 2011 -- it's there I learned that Pallas were forced to cancel. Of course, it also revealed our "fest focus" page for the fest was not updated (it is now). Riverside are playing instead of Pallas, and the line up also includes TrettioƄriga Kriget, The Tangent, Hypnos 69, Sky Architect, and Versus X. On the Friday, Peter Gabriel tribute band Secret World are playing. -ed.]
