On The Edge is guitarist Patrick Rondat's new album and the follow-up to the successful Amphibia. Rondat is perhaps most known for his work with Jean M. Jarre but On The Edge is in fact his fourth solo album. There are not many guitar-instrumental albums released today that are really interesting and innovative, but Rondat is one of those guitar-heroes that still produces instrumental rock that's both interesting and creative. On this new album, Rondat has teamed up with world renowned and loved jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani (R.I.P), unique violinist Didier Lockwood, as well as Tommy Aldridge [drummer] of various bands such as Whitesnake and Gary Moore.

This is high quality instrumental rock with elements of prog rock/metal/ambient and jazz/fusion. What excites me the most is the fact that Rondat doesn't try to be the fastest guitarist in the world and show off from start to end. Rondat instead focuses on technique, feeling, emotion, song-structure and melody. While this CD shows a wide spectrum of musical influences and elements, Rondat's ability to blend power and melody into his songs is unique. The songs are technical and complex, but never lose its sense of melody. The great clear production, the song-structures and arrangements are very professional.

Fans of instrumental rock and guitar-heroes as well as the ordinary prog metal fan will love this CD.
