Believe. Yes, believe, but in what do you believe? The new work of cult progsters Pendragon opens up with this distressing yet very actual question, four years removed from the classy Not Of This World. It seems an eternity, right, but this long-lasting pause was forced by a lot of troubles that Nick Barrett unfortunately ran into. Only now that he was able to handle and put them all behind him, can he clearly resurface and please the music audience once again. In fact this new album is very well done, even if it's slightly different from the past. But Nick already underlined this aspect in the interview, and you can hear the changes, as the compositions inside Believe unravel themselves, looking almost always more linear than the tracks of the past. Once in a while they even recall new influences that the band always kept in the background. However, don't worry too much, the dreamy atmospheres that are a Pendragon trademark are still there, even if there's a certain acoustic flavour going on from song to song. This is an idea that I personally love, especially for tunes like "The Wisdom Of Salomon" or "We Talked," which is part of the beautiful suite "The Wishing Well." This is truly a record sung and played with the heart. You've gotta believe!
