Jimi Hendrix ... although you might not say it at first, but this man was a very progressive musician and his way of guitar playing inspired hundreds of musicians. Therefore it is no surprise to see Lion Music releasing a tribute album to this remarkable guitar player. They have asked several bands and musicians signed to them to contribute a song and the result is quite nice.

The opener is definitely my fav song, "Freedom," played by Sun Caged, who at that time were in the original line-up. The guitar play of Marcel Coenen really stands out here, he sounds very close to Hendrix, as does the screeching Hammond sound by Joost van den Broek. Also, Arabesque's version of "Cross Town Traffic" is very good, again in the style of Hendrix. But not all songs are of similar sound to Hendrix. "Highway Chile," played by Cyril Achard, is very mellow, a bit jazzy/funky. Very inspired sounds "Fire" in the version of Bumblefoort & Dennis Leeflang (ex-Sun Caged).

"Foxy Lady" always makes me think back of the first Wayne's World movie and that is the reason why I like this song very much, but unfortunately I find Edward Box's version not that great, as it does not have the same excitement or passion as the original has. But the instrumental "3rd Stone From The Sun" (no, not 3rd Rock!) by Carl Roa sounds amazing! Also the closing song by Lars Eric Mattson and Ritchie Kotzen, "Little Miss Lover," really rocks.

OK, all songs are covers, but most of them are very good, some are average. The fact that Regi Hendrix, cousin of Jimi, wrote the liner notes and sang on "Bold As Love," which by the way is also a good song, is interesting, but not the main reason to buy this album. It's a quality recording, without much surprises, so you have a fairly good idea how the album sounds. Then it's up to you if you can enjoy the Hendrix tunes.
