The DVD format, with all of its claims of visual and audio perfection, is not what you would expect it to be. I do not think I have had a DVD yet in music or movie format, which did not have some kind of flaw or imperfection that frustrated me. It is not my equipment, because it works fine. On this DVD, I could not view the interview section without it stopping prematurely then going back to the selection section, very odd. I have seen other flaws just as you would see in VHS format as well, so I think they have a long way to go before they reach the state of pristine perfection that you read about in magazines like Sound And Vision. Okay then, bitch session is over; let us move on the music.

Midge Ure made a name for himself with the alternative rock-pop band Ultravox, and after the dissolution of that group, as a respected solo artist. He was instrumental in helping Bob Geldof form Band Aid, a special project to aid famine relief efforts in Ethiopia, in 1984. Together they wrote the song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and assembled an all-star band of British musicians to record the single. I remember that being a huge thing for gaining respect for people in music with political agendas.

This DVD is a memoir of a recent UK tour celebrating his most popular tracks and supports his latest releases Move Me and The Very Best Of Midge Ure & Ultravox. I had not realized how powerful his music was until I sat down and absorbed this performance in its entirety. The lyrics are what really stoked the emotional fires within me. With dark, to the point songs like "No Regrets," "Alone," and "Lament," although not bright songs filled with sunshine and smiles, surely make an impression upon you. The darker side of life we all experience one time or another can be instantly reborn within us once this music starts. How many times have you felt alone in a room full of people, lamented the loss of a loved one, or looked back on a negative situation in your life with no regrets? Ure sings every song as if he lived them and he plays the guitar in a vigorous and earnest way to add fuel to the fire.

In the bonus features, many of the same songs performed by Ure show him all alone with an acoustic guitar, which is a real pleasure to witness. He really is a poet with a guitar. I like the way his enunciation comes out in his voice as well, it seems more original and real, knowing he is from different shores.

Besides the technical glitches, this DVD was excellent, and I would say without hesitation a must for any Ure fan.
