Finally I can put my hands on the last effort by IQ, one of the oldest prog bands on the scene. I read about their upcoming release of a DVD and about the next work scheduled for autumn. So I thought to review The Seventh House

While many progressive rock groups are oriented toward a little different music from the usual standard (The Flower Kings toward fusion, Arena toward metal, Spock's Beard toward pop and so on), IQ's music is just prog. And what prog! I was very surprised listening to this album because it is great!

IQ play classic progressive rock which I believed no one was going to perform any longer.

The record is formed by six songs and there aren't any weak points on it. Catchy melodies, good riffs, great rhythmic parts make The Seventh House a new little masterpiece of the genre.

Another quality of this disc is the players' technical skills: Holmes produces some very involving solos, like those played in Steve Hackett's manner on "Erosion"; the bass lines by John Jowitt and Paul Cook's rhythms are worth the CD price. I've known Jowitt's style since his time in Arena, but every time I listen to his music, I think he's astonishing.

I'll wait for the new work with great curiosity, hoping the next one will be as marvelous as The Seventh House.
