Italy has always been a divine country what the output of vintage, classic symphonic rock is concerned. Next to well known names such as Banco and PFM there?s a phone directory filled with lesser known names who have never hit the big time but nevertheless have released some decent music. Also this Standarte release will never be nominated for a Grammy but those in the know will be able to treasure this release as one of the highlights from the nineties.

The trio of Standarte has dedicated this album to Vincent Crane. Crane, one time member with the legendary Crazy World of Arthur Brown and his very own Atomic Rooster, was an ace player on the Hammond organ. Needless to say this instrument is the focus point on this album filled with craftmanship. Keyboard player Michele Profeti also delivers a fair amount of mellotron sounds for the unsuspecting listener. In "One Strange December Evening" the Deep Purple influences are very evident because the song sounds very much like the twin brother of "Space Truckin'," although it has to be said that the band tries to arrange this composition as originally as possible. To extra emphasize the seventies feel, the band put extra reverb on Danielle Caputo?s voice so as to have him swing from the left speaker to the right and back again. Standarte also re-arranged "Sinaesthesia," a Ronnie Montrose song. Whilst Spin Doctors try to be the new Faces and the Black Crowes are imitating Free, it is no disgrace for Standarte to try and become the new Atomic Rooster. Especially the way this little beauty has been recorded should give the band the opportunity to sneak into all the reference books on good honest music. A classic!
