After unearthing a real treasure trove of progressive highlights in the seventies, Italy strikes back with a number of splendid bands. One of them is Il Castello Di Atlante who released a magnificent work with this CD, with the long title, Sono Io Il Signore Delle Terre A Nord. The band was already active in the seventies and has recently been reformed in order to combine their love for composition with the professional knowledge of the nineties. The indespensable violin is constantly present especially in "La Foresta Dietro Il Mulino Di Johan" where it gets very sentimental. Medieval themes feel at ease within the refined compositions that stand for tradition and insight.

Images of lost (Italian?) churchyards dwell through your mind when you listen to the intro of "Il Saggio." Pity though that some of the vocal parts are arranged in such a way that they sound like a candidate for the San Remo festival. However it is nice that keyboard player Roberto Giordano plays his synth solos on an ARP Odyssey, which makes a nice change from the more common sounds.

After a meritorious intro on grand piano, "Estate" is nothing more than an Italian remake of the Procol Harum classic "A Salty Dog" although the band lays claim to its originality! Whilst we end in real Angelo Branduardi style with "Il Pozzo" we can only recommend this Il Castello Di Atlante as being the present-day version of Quella Vechia Locanda!
