The name of the band is almost quizzical, the cover of the album is ugly, at best, but you certainly cannot question the brilliant music that comes out of the speakers once you put I Move into the stereo. In fact the talent possessed by the five New York-based musicians that form Izz is too much evident: impeccable vocal lines that recall the ones of such classy bands like King's X, Marillion, Enchant and Yes (Big Generator) period); drums and electronic percussion floating around you in a seducing manner; guitar and keyboards so celestially played that the ghosts of Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman seem to appear here and there throughout the tracks. However it would be really unfair to limit the beauty of this CD only by quoting similarities to other artists, Izz are a unique combo that takes the above mentioned influences one step further, mixing them altogether to offer the listener real "progressive" music. The title-track, with its ever-changing moods and rhythms, is the perfect example to my praising words, but it's only the pinnacle of an album that delivers positive surprises with each and every listening. In truth, the focal key to such a well-played record is mainly the group's ability to draw the most various influences and blend them (almost always) inside the 4 minute mark, even if some songs clearly work as a combination, like "I Already Know" and "I Wanna Win." Still Izz are good even when they unleash some instrumental madness, as the King Crimson-esque "Star Evil Gnoma Su" shows with ease. Along with this, another strong point of the album is the crystal clear sound production, personally tracked by Tom Galgano, the singer of the band; a fact that demonstrates how well-rounded Izz are music-wise. A great combo, one big surprise that is bound for greater things once their third opus will be out. Remain tuned!
