The Eyes Of The Shadow is the debut album from the Dutch band Silent Edge.

The disc is formed by ten average-length songs, that show what the style of these guys from the Netherlands is. The group's influences are evident, like Symphony X or Dream Theater, but without losing their own personality. Another thing to add is that the album has a huge neoclassical aspect, that you can notice, for example, in the second track, "Savage Symphony," so Silent Edge are similar to Royal Hunt.

Therefore we can speak of putting this CD in the prog-power metal genre, with some neoclassical influences. And I think that this Eyes Of The Shadow shows how thin the line that divides prog and metal is; in fact, you can listen to some metal riffs or very hard rhythmic sections, alternated with quiet and catchy pieces. But all these things don't permit to this work to eliminate those actual standards of the genre, giving only few innovative elements; this consideration is confirmed by some unexciting songs.

So I guess the fans of prog-power will like this album a lot, but what will the others think?
