The Keith Tippett Group was a jazz-rock-fusion super group consisting of Tippett (a young 22 years) on piano with such standouts as Robert Wyatt (drums), Elton Dean (alto saxophone), Nick Evan (trombone) and Phil Howard (drums), including a full orchestra and a host of other excellent musicians.

The album Dedicated To You, But You Weren't Listening (1971, Vertigo, 4449), in my humble opinion, was a breakthrough recording for the rock and jazz worlds. Released on Vertigo Records in 1971 and now available on 180-gram virgin vinyl in 2003 on Akarma Records, it includes the original colorful and thought provoking artwork in an LP format with traditional gatefold sleeves. The cover is classic album art with an exclusivity only found in the dominion of Roger Dean. It comes as no surprise that the great artist (made famous by all of the Yes covers) designed it.

Some of this music is "out there" so to speak; well, not by today's standards by any stretch of the imagination, however it still sounds fresh and innovative today. At times, the strong persuasions of avant-garde and free form such as on ?Gridal Suite? reign supreme, then other moments are more contemporary like the bopping danceable closing tune ?Black Horse.? Those two compositions in particular are worlds apart yet they clearly defined each style and genre.

This one is dedicated to all the jazz lovers out there with an open mind. If you did not hear it the first time, listen this time.
