Nope, not a report on the PBS series; nor will you have to guess about whom we're speaking - though hmm... that might make for an interesting way to see if you're actually reading... Nevertheless, this Mystery is the Canadian band, and there are slew of news bits, new and old.

First up: Mystery at la Place ? C?t?: After the resounding success of their performance at the Bell Center opening for Musical Box, and their fantastic show at the 4th edition of FMPM last September 11th, the group Mystery presented one last show before returning in the studios to complete their upcoming album. The band were at La Place ? C?t? on Friday, October 23, 2009. The symphonic prog rock sextet is composed of Michel St-P?re on guitars, Steve Gagn? on drums, Beno?t Dupuis on keys, Dean Baldwyn on guitars, Fran?ois Fournier on bass and Beno?t David on vocals. Beno?t will be returning on tour at the end of October with Yes, this time all across Europe.

Next, in a news about the future (cuz we are late with the above item): Mystery announced for RoSfest 2010! Of course, we (PW) posted this news earlier, but it bears repeating in case you missed it. RoSfest is extremely pleased to announce Montreal-based band Mystery as part of the Rosfest 2010 Friday night lineup. Mystery was founded in 1986 by Michel St-P?re as a studio project; the project gradually turned into a fully fledged band which successfully toured through Quebec and released several albums which were favorably reviewed by several magazines and websites all over the world. In 1995, Michel founded Unicorn Records to help promote the music of Mystery; the label later became a driving force in progressive rock, highlighting some of the finest bands from inside and outside Canada. After the departure of lead singer Gary Savoie in 1999, St-P?re convinced Benoit David, who was then already singing Yes material in a tribute band, to join the band.

Besides Michel St-Pere (guitar/bass/keyboards) and Benoit David (vocals), Mystery?s lineup onsists of Steve Gagn? (drums), Benoit Dupuis (keyboards), Dean Baldwin (guitar/keys) and Francois Fournier (bass) [as noted earlier, we know -ed.]. The band released their 5th studio album Beneath The Veil Of Winter?s Face in 2007, and is currently working on a new release that should be released prior RoSfest 2010. Mystery recently opened the 4th annual FMPM in Montreal with a stellar performance; we expect Mystery to provide a longer and even better performance next spring at RoSfest 2010!

Benoit David on tour with Yes. Yes will be Europe starting in late October. Steve, Chris, and Alan will once again be joined by Benoit David on vocals and Oliver Wakeman on keyboards. All dates can now be found on the Europe Tour page. Jon Anderson is not part of the lineup on this tour; click here for info on Jon's solo activities.

Also, Mystery celebrates the 10th Anniversary of Destiny?. 10 years ago, Mystery had just released their 3rd CD entitled Destiny? This album received rave reviews from all over the world. The album cover showed a child waiting for the schoolbus in front of a cemetary. What will happen between this young kid school day and the day that this kid, hopefully very old, will die.

Well in 10 years many things happened. Members have left and others have joined the band, and unfortunately some have left for another world. The world is not really the same anymore and everything did not turn out according to plans or was it all just following the course of a greater master plan fore-ordained by the Divine?? Who knows?, One thing is sure the questions asked on Destiny? have not been answered yet and probably never will.

2 songs will not make the final mix in 1998 including "Beneath The Veil Of Winter?s Face," which 9 years later has become the title track of Mystery?s best selling CD, and "Heaven Can Wait" that you can now find on the new 10th Anniversary edition of Destiny?

After the release of Mystery's latest album Beneath The Veil Of Winter?s Face, tracks from the Destiny? sessions were transferred into Illusion Studio?s computer and the new mix was started. Michel St-Pere says about this project: Not only this album brought Mystery to a new level, but it also started the whole Unicorn Records adventure. But I [Michel says] was not satisfied with the mix and after mixing Beneath The Veil Of Winter?s Face, I knew I could bring Destiny? to a new level.

The new mix sounds a lot better than the original and this album deserves to be heard the way it was meant to be. The 10th anniversary edition of Destiny? is now available.

And what about the new album? Well, Mystery's new album will be called One Among The Living. [They are] currently recording [it and it is] due to be released in January 2010. The new album will [...] contain 8 pieces including the title track that Mystery played for the first time live at FMPM2009 a few weeks ago and a 20 minute plus suite that will please all Mystery and Prog fans.

Drums and keyboards have been recorded already and most of the vocals and guitars are done. The album will be completed while Benoit is back on tour with Yes in November and should be released on Unicorn Digital in early 2010 just before Mystery?s first appearance in the USA at ROSfest2010.
