Concerts: CalProg Presents: Spock's Beard

Posted on Thursday, July 08 @ 20:00:00 UTC by nightowl

Having admittedly "buried the lead" in a previous Spock's Beard item, here's the news announcement as Jim "PapaJ" Harrell intended*: Long time proggers Spock's Beard have recently released their 10th studio album, appropriately titled X. This album has been critically acclaimed as their best "post-Neal" work, and by some as their best work period. They are about to launch a substantial European tour in support of it, but due to economic factors were not planning any shows in the US. CalProg could not let that happen, so we are honored to announce that they will launch this momentous tour from our stage in Downey. They are originally from the LA area, and we are hoping that local fans will avail themselves of this rare opportunity to see these guys at the top of their game. Here's the facts:

Spock's Beard - X Tour
Sunday Sept. 12, 2010 @ 8pm, Downey Civic Theater (www.calprog.com/downey_civic_theater.htm)
Tickets go on Sale Saturday July 17 @ 7am, available only at www.calprog.com All Seats Reserved - $55, Credit Card or Paypal

A limited edition version of X was released in June 2010 via the band's website (the autographed limited edition has sold out). The limited edition contains a bonus track that won't be included on the standard edition - which kinda makes sense, no? (although you can download it from iTunes). Mascot Records is the band's new label, which was announced earlier this year. They will be releasing X standard edition on August 30, according the SB website [although that seems to just be Europe, as there's nothing at the US Mascot site -ed.].

* not that PapaJ said anything to me about having "buried the lead," but as this is their only and only US appearance - thus far at least - it does deserve to have it's own moment in the sun, so to speak.
