With Special Guest MoeTar
CalProg is pleased to present the legendary guitarist Allan Holdsworth and his new "power trio" featuring Jimmy Haslip on bass and Virgil Donati on drums. Saturday January 14, 2012 @ 8pm @ The Center Theater - Whittier, CA.
Holdsworth has been called one of the best improvisational guitarists in the world, and this jazz/prog powerhouse promises to deliver a blistering set of music that will satisfy even the most demanding music aficionados. From Allan's Facebook page:
"Allan will be touring from January to end of May with Jimmy Haslip on bass and Virgil Donati on drums. ...The powerfull and rockier power trio will perform 'oldies but goodies' from Allan's repertoire and several new tunes. Stay tuned for more news."
Opening the show will be the Oakland based band MoeTar. "Having played at 2 CalProg nights this year, they have proven to be fan favorites, and are one of the most exciting new finds I've come upon in years. Their blend of prog, jazz and pop is very pleasing to the ear, and Moorea is one of the most dynamic and powerful lead singers you will ever hear. But don't take my word for it, listen to the audio samples on the CalProg main page. Included are songs from their studio album From These Small Seeds as well as their last live performance at Steamers," writes CalProg's Jim "PapaJ" Harrel. "This promises to be another great night of music, and I hope to see you there!"
