Total Time: 00:00:00Surface Serene is the second album by Little Atlas, an American progressive rock band based in Miami, but it is the first one to be published by Progrock Records.
The group performs in a classic progressive rock style, with some influences of the great past bands, and this fact is well represented by a sound that is very "Seventies." However this music is easy to listen to and it is very catchy, also because of the lack of excessive technicalities. The technical part isn?t so evident, but you can notice the experience in playing the instruments. All these considerations are explained by the tempo changes and the fine arrangements.
In evidence in particular on this disc is the piano: almost all the pieces have the piano, even if Steve Katsikas uses the synths for the solos and the organ for the most dramatic parts.
This taste for the music of the 70s makes me note that there are some similarities with the Pavlov's Dog. Although Katsikas' voice is similar to David Surkamp's, the music is more particular and it can be compared with other bands like Yes or ELP.
