Meisel, Hubi - Cut
Year of Release: 2002
Label: self-released
Catalog Number: n/a
Format: CD
Total Time: 30:40:00Between stints with the great progressive metal band Dreamscape, and the unreleased discs of the band Scenes, Hubi Meisel has put together a batch of songs from the 80's and released this limited edition disc. It has nothing to do with Progressive Metal in the least, but it's Hubi's way of diversifying and showing the different aspects to his unique, high-pitched voice. You should recognize some of the songs of the 80's, especially Rush's "Red Sector A" and The Cars' "Drive". Hubi pulls off these songs effortlessly, and with fun in his voice. The shining cuts are the ones I mention above, and with the right amount of production on "Relax", the song would have been revived in this new millennium, but Hubi chose to just sing the song as is without the pyrotechnics of the original. All of the songs are well done, and well played - if you are a fan of these 80s hits, it would suit you well to hear Hubi sing them for you, and especially if you are a fan of his voice like I always have been since his stint with Dreamscape.
Hubi is at work on a concept disc called Orfeo in which he is enlisting the help of some well known musicians from around the globe. It was last slated to be released at the end of 2002, and this I look forward to with great anticipation. [This is possibly the 2004 release that came to be called EmOcean -ed.].
