Change Changing Places

Wow, I've not been here in a while. I think the last time I stepped into this room, it was to let Tom in for a guest editorial back in April. He did leave the place clean though.

Anyway, I'm back to tell you that some changes are afoot here at Progressiveworld.net. Now, I could be dramatic and say, "this is the last issue." But then you'd be pissed as the next sentence said, "because we're not going to update in an 'issue' format anymore."

So, I'll save myself that pain and just explain. Henceforth from today, we shant be updating the site every two weeks. Of course, news, concert listings, releases, links, etc. already were updated as needed, so what I'm really talking about is the meat of the site - reviews, interviews, articles. See, the new plan, and we will see if it works, is to publish these things as they come up, or arrive. E.g., if I write a review, it will be posted that or the next day and not wait perhaps two weeks to see the light of day.

If you are currently on the mailing list, we'll still send you an update message every two weeks, and it will summarize what we've added over the past two weeks. Meaning, if you aren't the check every day type, you don't have to be, and you won't miss a thing. And if you are on E-prog or rec.music.progressive, I won't be "spamming" it with update notices. I promise.

The other part of this change is that the site will be getting a facelift. After about 5 years, it's about time, eh? That's already in progress and should debut the end of this month. All your favorite features are staying, and all your favourite reviewers.

In October of last year (egads!, it's almost been a year!) my day job changed, and now my schedule is erratic with night meetings, photo shoots and events, etc. (I'm the communications associate at a non-profit). This new format should make doing the site easier. The core content (reviews, interviews, etc.) will not be updated on Wednesdays (I, ugh, work till 9pm) and probably not Sunday's either, but not for any religious reasons. So if you are a visit every day kinda of person, you also have a couple of days to mow the lawn, clean the garage, or any other task your wife (husband) is asking you to do. (Hmm... I think I used that before in a Progression column... oops).

Anyway, this "issue" we have 18 reviews for your reading pleasure including the as yet unreleased CD from The Watch, called Vacuum, Guy LeBlanc's new CD All The Rage, the fantastic new CD from Trettioåriga Kriget, Elden Av År (our five-star review this month), plus Spock's Beard's The Light - The Artwork Collector's Series, Jean Pascal Boffo's , another look at Pendragon's Not Of This World, and more.

So, I'll let you get to the lastest update, but not before I give you a taste of what's coming up from l'il ol' me: Mike Keneally - Dog, Time Requiem - s/t, IQ - Seventh House, The Flower Kings - Adam & Eve (yes, another one), Scott Mosher - Inferno (hi Scott!), Ken Baird - Martin Road (hi Ken), Opus Atlantica - s/t, and a bunch more - I've been listening to about 20-25 CDs... (and those who've sent stuff, I will review your work. I promise.)

Until next time...

Steph

April 2007: Of course, written in September 2004, this all related to when it was all HTML. That facelift mentioned is what you're lookin' at now {that was 2007; in 2015, we had another facelift, this facelift (do we look younger?} - Steph
